Things are pretty rushed lately (moving, DIY, Canadian residency, employment, crochet, pregnancy, you’ll find all this at http://untoonaucanada.blogspot.com) but starting today, I am on maternity leave two months prior to the delivery date. This is the perfect opportunity to take over and spend more time on drawing, painting, illustrating and photography.
I am now enrolled in acrylic paints courses. Significantly simpler than watercolor (which requires a perfect control of spaces unpainted) or oil (very long drying time), acrylic is suitable to all mixtures, all techniques, with textures, materials, transparency, collage … which is perfectly highlighted in this workshop hosted by the University of Montreal. At the same time, I notice my weaknesses:
the use of color, color matching and color blends (I’m handier with a pen or pencil),
the application of paint (no fine lines, impasto, marks left by the brush drips)
But I do not lose hope and the discovery of these new techniques brings me a lot in terms of creativity.
At the same time I’m back on the drawing board. Here is a portrait done this morning.
After Valentine’s Day, Patrick’s Day! For Patrick, I hesitated between the Leprechaun (gnome in the long red beard and green coats part of Irish folklore), a sheep and a four-leaf clover. Finally, there were more opportunities with the sheep and Guinness:)
The hardest thing was to imagine the head of a sheep. Yet this is not what is lacking in New Zealand! I opted for a slightly cartoon style, a head long and narrow, large eyes, but no facial features humanization (such as a smile or eyebrow).
First test: a sheep jumping over a Guinness, a mixture between the expression count the sheep and the fact that alcohol has a soporific effect (at least at high doses).
Sheep Counting (Create your own with this design – Canada – US )
The second is more of a delusion: a bunch of sheep drinking the Guinness. This version has not yet been reworked … I’ll start as soon as I have time!
Bunch of sheep
The latter came to my working version of counting sheep I thought the coat looked like a lot of sheep in the foam of Guinness … where Irish Taste!

Happy St. Patrick’s all:)
Wow, sorry but I really neglected this blog lately. It must be said that between Christmas, New Year’s Day (two weeks on vacation wandering in the wilderness of New Zealand: South Island) and a few small contracts around, I forgot to publish my latest creations.
The last 2 months, I mostly spent time on my shops: Toon Shop (for Europe) and Toon’s Shop (for Canada / US / New Zealand / Australia). FYI, I created these through Spreadshirt shops last year but it took me some time to figure how to add new patterns and understand the Spreadshirt’s settings.
In short, I participated to the contest for Valentine’s day (I leave you with Besides judging the jury selection: The Winners – 2011 Valentine’s Day Design Contest ) which boosted me to create new patterns.
Here is my submission to this contest:
(Canada / US only)

See you soon!
To please one of my kiwi friend, my last design in the Toon Shop is a small Kiwi. It’s just the vector graphic version of the drawing done last year.
The title “Sweet As” is an expression from New Zealand which means: cool, ok, fine, all good!
The first version was a bit more rough.
In the mean time, I’ve changed the little legs and added some colours. The second version is in vector but the imported version in the store is in PNG. Indeed the colors number limit accepted by the system is 3 compared to 5 colors used for the drawing: black, white, dark gray, beige, light beige. But this is not the only reason! To import a vector graphic in the store, there are endless rules to follow, as the size of each shape or the distance between each shape. These rules were too complicated to follow with a subject so shaggy 🙂
In the Tshirt Shop, I created 30 new products with this design and discovered how to create categories:
- Kiwis > I will probably continue to insert some new designs and products
- The snail who didn’t like water > I’ve got a coloured version in reserve. Hope to upload this one soon 🙂
- Angel or Devil > My first vector design!
- Organic > All the organic Tee shirts whatever is the design because even a small gesture counts a lot to us all
Hope this will help you to find the product you like.
Sorry but today, I have just started a new blog! So I had no time to update this one. In fact, the new blog is not really so new, it’s just a translation in french of this one for all my friends and family around the world. I hope this would be helpfull!
