It was long but I’m really proud of the result: a Gorilla playing drum.
This digital drawing is based on an old sketch I drew back in 2001 for the video game “Zoe va au zoo”.
This character was one of the animals Zoe met in the spaceship. Have a look on the post “Zoé… and a mushroom” for more information! The drawing of each character was coloured in Photoshop or directy in Flash before the animation step. Here is the result:
I tried to follow some advice provided in SOS Factory’s blog like adding some light reflection on the skin, changing the layer blending options and drawing the strokes with the pen tool. In the end, I worked 2 days on this drawing… I still need some more practice with Photoshop in order to be more efficient. But it was a good exercise for discovering, learning and training more on using Photoshop.
Today a little colourisation. The drawing was done in 2001 for the flash video game “Zoé va au Zoo”. Zoé is a little girl living in Scotland. She’s walking in the street when she is sucked by a spaceship where lived various animals speaking french… A great idea for an e-learning product from Dr Philippe Delcloque.
After many hours on this colourisation, I finally realised that the drawing was quite unbalanced with the big mushroom on the right pressed against Zoe and a large empty space on the left. In the sketch, this room was filled by a shrub.
Another strange part in this digital drawing are Zoe’s eyes, they look like asian eyes. The reason lies in the eyelid, the distance between the eyebrow and the eyelash and the eye’s width. The result is really weird!
In this drawing, all the strokes have been done with the pen tool under Photoshop. I have achieved the shadow with the normal brush tool on the character and painted all the landscape with a special brush tool really handy to create fractal surface.
Today, a little colourisation of an old pencil drawing: one of the “Zoé va au zoo” video game’s character. I worked in 2001 on this project in Scotland. The purpose was teaching french to the childrens through an adventure game. In the game, Zoé, the main character, meet different animals needing her help. Each ordeal match with a french lesson.
To create this digital drawing I worked on Photoshop using only the brush and the eraser. The result is not so clean as using the pen and the gradient tools.
