Tongariro Crossing

November 16, 2009 2 comments

Amongst the most famous New Zealand’s great walk: the Tongariro crossing is a tramping in the Tongariro National Park located in the middle of the North Island. The track start from the Mangatepopo Valley close to Whakapapa (pronounced “Fakapapa”) and finish to Ketetahi Car Park. The track runs between Mount Ngauruhoe and Mount Tongariro, across the south crater, up on the left of the red crater (beautiful red and grey lava flow), down to the emerald lakes and along the blue lake. The last part is quiet long but not difficult as the path goes straight down.

This landscape pencil drawing is based on a photography desribing the Tongariro Crossing. I haven’t been able to depict the Emerald Lake on the left of the picture with a pencil. This drawing miss the colors of the lava, the lake, the sky, and the stones.

We have done this 20km walk this week end… one of my best short walk!

So beautiful New Zealand’s volcanoes, trekkings and landscapes… hope to be able once to depict how gorgeous they are!
