A zombie for Lukas

February 6, 2014 Leave a comment

My husband’s cousin is a fan of the “Walkind Dead” series and other zombies. For his birthday, I threw myself into the achievement of a zombie drawing from photo with some personal touches.

The final version would be printed on a hoodie…

I just received the hoodie today :

A new pattern on the Toon Shop: Feed me! Or rather two patterns. I can’t choose between a vector graphic and a pixel one, such as a drawing or photo.

If you choose to upload a vector graphic, Spreadshirt will limit the number of colors to 3 (black and white included) from limited swatches (depending on the printing techniques 20 to 28 colors). In addition, many rules have to be respected: lines width or spacing between lines. But the result is perfect and we have a wider choice of printing technique: flex, flock or digital. See printing techniques on Spreadshirt >

A pixel graphic is easier to design: gradients, no features or colors limit, but the result may be surprising if the print size is really different compared to the original (very small or very large). However, I had no surprise until now with my designs.

Here is the vector design.

Feed me!

Here, you can replace each of the 3 colors in the design: black, dark gray and light gray by one in the swatches. For instance:

blue for boys

pink for girls.

Here is the pixel graphic. It’s an original watercolor painting.

First, this design was for St Patrick Day with a pint of Guinness instead of the milk bottles.

Comptage de moutons

But, following my cousin’s advice (mum of two), I adapted the pattern for babies. Thanks to her, I’m quite happy with the result. Now, I think this design is much more adapted for babies, especially when you’re a first time parents struggling with your newborn… feeding him or her night and day!

From the sketch to the final vector graphic: the crazy cat

Back from vacation, I feel great to come back to my pencils. Here are the 5 steps I used for creating a crazy cat from the sketch to the final result. The vector desig is perfectly adapted for printing on very small or very large product without loosing quality. A new mascot is ready!

We start with a small pencil sketch, outlined with a large pen. Then this is the vectorization step completed by some alterations on the initial drawing and followed by colorization. A blue cat? Why not, it matches so well its funny look. For shadows and touches of light, you need to imagine one or more light sources and visualize the character in 3D! Well, I’m still working on it…

Have a good week!

Recently, someone asked me to post my C++ drawings to the C++ facebook fan page. That was a good reason to take back these drawings and try to give them a little review.

What is in your mind?

As I was creating the various products, I faced some questions and would like to have your comments:

Do you prefer the design in the back or in the front for the Men’s t-shirts?

Do you prefer colours or black and white design?

Do you prefer a little design on the chest or a bigger one?

Do you prefer cheap tees, nice jackets or organic tees?

See you soon!
